1000 schools connected to learn about water efficiency

Water Education Program

The Need

A state government body desired to introduce a water education program across their network of schools, with a particular focus on water efficiency and sustainability. The goal of the educational program was to provide staff and students with an opportunity to learn about water efficiency through mathematics and science concepts such as measurement and data, in a tangible and realistic environment. The government body required a water usage monitoring device to integrate with their online portal that was easy to install with no disruptions to water supply, could provide real-time data, and was low-cost and scalable.

The Solution

Captis Pulse Lite and Captis Metrum devices were selected as the flagship data loggers for the program. Over 2,000 Captis devices were installed in more than 1,000 schools across the state, capturing daily water usage data that was then presented in an interactive online platform for teachers and students.

In addition to monitoring general water usage and the educational benefits that Captis assisted in providing to the program, Captis has also enabled schools to identify genuine concerns in their water network such as leaks, tripped valves, or assets no longer operating efficiently. As a result, many schools were also able to rectify impaired infrastructure that would otherwise have been left unnoticed. In one such example, a school identified a major leak from a broken pipe within two days of a Captis device being installed. School management was able to arrange rectification works soon after, saving 2,626 kilolitres of water and over $6,000 on their quarterly bill.
